· REAR COVER: This lithograph, courtesy New Hampshire Historical Society, depicts an American 4-4-0 Pioneer, the first locomotive produced by MLW. Pioneer is a typical product from the early years: wagon-top boiler, outside connections, richly ornamented. This advertisement is probably the company’s first: the three listed corporate officials, led by O.W. Bayley, were the original officers installed to run the new corporation in 1855.
